10-aduibooks-worth-listening-to-even-if-youve-read-the-booksThe first audiobook I ever listened to was Catching Fire. We were going on a long road trip and reading in the car makes me nauseous. Christian had also read The Hunger Games and was down for listening to the rest of the trilogy. We drove from California to Utah and then Utah to Washington and from Washington back to California listening to the Hunger Games trilogy. We were both hooked.

Because of the way my job is I can often listen to audiobooks while I work on a spreadsheet. And because the way my life is I can’t read books without either neglecting my kids or putting myself to sleep after just a couple of pages. Nothing helps me get through washing the dishes late at night like a good audiobook playing in the background.

If you’ve read the Harry Potter series and also listened to the audiobooks you know that listening to a book you’ve read has its own special magic. Some of the voice actors are incredible and will really bring a book to life.

  • Becky - Thanks for the list! There are a few I still need to listen to if I ever get a second to think straight. At least now I don’t have to waste time figuring out a good list.ReplyCancel

We packed eight of us in there, three adults, one teenager, two kids and two babies. We were slow as heck but we all fit. The kids kept on jumping out and swimming, swinging on the trees, and overall enjoying their afternoon where we put homework on hold and took them out to enjoy nature.

Want to take an inflatable boat or kayak on Kahana river? Below is some information about location, where to rent kayaks, and other fun things to do at the park.

Kayaking Kahana River

Where: Kahana river is located on Ahupua’a O Kahana State Park at 55-222 Kamehameha Hwy on the windward side of Oahu. There is plenty of parking, public bathrooms, showers, and a great grassy area for picnic. Open daily during daylight hours.

The River: It’s a 2 mile round trip from the beach packed with luscious foliage and a majestic view of the Koolau mountains. The water is very calm, you can jump out of the boat at any time to swim around.

Rentals:

Oahu Beach Gear Rental

Two Good Kayaks

Coastal Kayak Tours

Bonus: Ahupua’o state park also has 10 beach campsites, and two great trails for hiking. Kapa’ele’ele trail is 1.2 miles round-trip loop on the mountain slope along the western side of Kahana Bay. The Nakoa trail is a 2.5 mile loop through the rainforest of Kahana Valley, it crosses the stream a couple of different times which offers you swimming spots to cool off. Both hikes are beautiful, and neither require a hiking permit

For me the hardest part about being a parent is the constant feeling that I don’t have enough time with my kids, especially alone time. Even on the weekends when I don’t work it still feels like it’s never enough. I want to sit and play a full game of Monopoly with my son, read as many board books as Eliza’s heart desires, and take orders from Maria for as long as she wants to give them to me.

One on one time is really important for me. I hate when we’re rushing to put the kids to sleep and I feel like aside from the repeated interactions of brushing teeth, clearing their dishes, and arguing about showers, there are no real moments of deep connection. I think that being a mother is 90% robot. More often than not I’m just repeating the same phrases and doing the same things.

Yesterday, through a series of good fortune my baby and I got to spend one on one time in Kailua beach where the sky was pink and the water was the most soothing color I have ever seen. I got to play with Eliza in the sand and float with her in the water. We kissed a lot too because this baby of mine is a big time kisser. These are the moments that renew my soul,

  • Mariko - I wish I had come. Not enough sleep is the worst demotivator. Cute cute girls.ReplyCancel
